China still leads the way in 5G technology, according to a new report from The Wall Street Journal (non-paywall link). Trump’s State Department has launched multiple campaigns against China, most notably its Clean Network initiative. While analysts suggest Biden could take a softer approach to China, in 2019 he delivered a speech criticizing Trump’s approach and saying “We do need to get tough with China.”
Ultimately, sanctions against China harm us – people in the United States have more in common with Chinese people than we do with our own government. Sanctions, threats and bans remove our ability to use advanced tech produced by China.

Hewlett-Packard, well known for its printers, has found a new way to cheat its customers by locking them in. In 2016, HP inkjet printers received an update with a hidden “feature” disabled third-party ink cartridges. They’d only work if you bought HP’s expensive ink. Now, HP has discontinued its “free ink for life” plan, charging customers 99 cents per month, locking them into having no choice but to keep paying HP and no one else to be able to use devices they own. (Someone’s already figured out a way around it for some printers, but it requires some real tech expertise.)

Trump’s nominee to the SCC, Natham Simington, is really, really bad – and will be going in front of the Senate for confirmation soon. Simington opposes Net Neutrality and supports the repeal of Section 230. BattleForTheNet.com has a call to action guide with more information.
